Aptly named “Titantic”

Golden Gate Park South Africa, not California! The Golden Gate Park here is a true gem. I was remiss in not knowing about it earlier and so thankful that several SA residents recommended (insisted, rather)that we visit.

The park is about 3 hours south of Joburg and sits on the northern border of Lesotho. The Maluti Mountains are enough different from the Drakensbergs to make this park truly unique. The rock formations with the prominent overhangs are fascinating.

A lovely, picturesque town called Clarens is located just a few miles to the west of the park. It is loaded with wonderful B&Bs, restaurants, shops and art galleries. We spent a short time in the galleries, but spending time in the park was indeed the biggest attraction. An added bonus was seeing baboon along the side of the road, numerous bok, and a few zebra, wildebeest, and ostriches here and there grazing in some fields. Finally! Some real African animals!!
