In addition to tent cleaning (see Day #95), there is a massive effort for cleaning all other related decorations following a function. Just like with the tent sections, this all can on for days and will take place in the yard around where I live. If you haven’t already figured it out, I am living within a business, not on some nice, quiet, country village plot.
The washing of the wedding linens is a huge chore. For just one wedding, it can easily be 15-20 loads of wash. For 3-4 weddings on a single weekend … well, do the math. The constant noise from the washing machine, which is located about 15 yards from my bedroom, and the constant presence of hired help is wearisome. Actually, all of the people are very nice and friendly, and I’m not expected to help with the work, so it could be worse, I suppose. Just wish they wouldn’t start work at 6am.
With the exception of maybe 4-5 weekends, my host mother has had one or more weddings to work every weekend since my arrival five months ago. Currently, there is a 2-3 month lapse in business with weddings (thus business) scheduled to resume in April. Not sure for the reason for the reductions in weddings during this time (summer heat perhaps), but I’m grateful for some relative peace and quiet.
