There is a lot of down time at school, both for John and me as well as for the learners. With regard to the learners, we see it as a huge problem as it represents time not having classwork, lectures, and instruction. Perhaps not a big deal if it were only 10 minutes now and then, but it is often 1-2 hours once or twice a day. But I digress …
Sometimes when the learners are not busy, a small core group of 6-8 learners will find John and me sitting in our room and will come in to chat, ask questions, and teach us a few words of Sepedi. Occasionally, the “fan club” will grow to 20-30 learners and sometimes the lessons involve dance steps and magic tricks. Hard to tell who is having the most fun.
